The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination UN Spain denounced the detention of immigrants as racial profiling used by police, in a hearing held on Wednesday in Geneva.
"Migrants are often considered scapegoats in the current economic crisis, the designated responsible for the lack of employment, a xenophobic propaganda, and it is written in the press. Currently in Spain would have a million illegal immigrants, what will you do with them the Government? going to legalize? "Cali Tzay finished asking.
The English delegation, which submitted a report Wednesday on the fight against racism in the country, may meet on Thursday to questions raised by this Committee.
In a paragraph of that report, Spain is concerned the emergence of a "new racism", not based on superiority "biological", but "the incompatibility of certain specific cultural, national, religious, ethnic or other (...) the superiority of one culture over others ( ...) the threat (against) the western lifestyle. "
"That means a Catalan going to discriminate in Madrid?" Asked the expert Romanian Ion Diaconu. The Colombian expert accounts Pastor Murillo Martinez asked to Spain on the composition of its prison population rates would show racist.
The Brazilian expert José Augusto Lindgren confessed to attend the hearing in Geneva, dismissed a stopover in Madrid-Barajas airport, which it accused of being "the biggest sport in Brazil the world."
